That is the funniest thing! Coincidentally, my husband seems to have 2 birthdays too. He was born on February 5th (or so we thought). However, when he started receiving his yearly explanation of benefits from Social Security, we noticed that they had his birthday as May 5th (we wondered why his came after his birthday!). His mother swears his birthday is in February and he does have his birth certificate to prove it but maybe I should start celebrating both birthdays just in case since he still has not corrected his birth date with Social Security .

I’m upwards of forty years old and I still have almost every one of the birthday cards that my father has sent me over the years. My parents have been divorced for ever. I don’t intentionally save them it’s just that I can’t throw them away. And I don’t save all of my cards, just the ones my father sends me. He always addresses them: My Dearest and signs: All my love, Dad. The cards are always the serious kind, from father to daughter, never the silly ones. My father is turning 86 this July and I know one day I will be so glad I saved those cards.

What an amazing world we live in where we can express our ideas to the President of our wonderful nation via the internet. I have no doubt that President Obama has read at least a few of these letters/poems. These youngsters are all so talented and wise beyond their years. What they have written, out of sincere concern, gives me a little hope for a brighter future. After all, my future and yours will be in their hands. Yes we can!!

I always use to stress about what to write in a sympathy card. But after having the unfortunate experience of being on the receiving end, I realized I didn’t need to. As long as I was being sincere, the sentiment would be appreciated. One of the most memorable cards I received from a co-worker after my father died had one simple written sentence “He will always be with you.” That simple thought touched me so much.

omg. I had tears in my eyes as I read this. This is what Christmas is all about. What amazes me most is that her fears were all about missing family gatherings and not on her deployment and safety. What a courageous woman she is. I pray for her safe and quick return so she can once again join the cookouts, birthdays, etc. and hopefully next year the real “she” can be in the picture with her loved ones.

What I love about Christmas cards, besides receiving them, is that they have become part of the holiday décor in most people’s homes. I love displaying my cards and enjoy looking through the cards displayed in family and friends’ homes even more. So I agree, Christmas wouldn’t be the same without them!
