Rose the Card Lady and Assorted Birthday Cards

My name is Rose, “The Card Lady,” and I would like to tell you how my name came to be…

A few years ago I purchased a box of assorted birthday cards from The Gallery Collection. One week after I received them, I threw a surprise anniversary party for my parents at my house. A discussion arose about upcoming birthdays and events, when my sister chimed in and said she forgot her mother in-law’s birthday (it was the very next day!). I went into the house and grabbed the assortment box for her. I quickly had a group of people surrounding me going through the box. They remarked how beautiful the greeting cards were and that they had never seen such cheerful cards in any store. A few of my guests picked out cards that were perfect for an upcoming birthday… I was more than happy to let them have the cards.

A week after my party, my neighbor knocked on my door; she had attended my party last week and remembered I had a boxed birthday cards assortment. She asked if she could have one for a party she had the very next day. So, that is how it began, and till this day, I still have people stopping by for thank you cards, birthday cards, and get well cards. My only dilemma is I’m running out of cards…I have to drop subtle hints on how my guests can get their own boxes.

So now my friends introduce me as Rose, the Card Lady.

Personalized Birthday Cards For A Feline Super Sweet 16 Celebration

Okay. I admit it. I am crazy! It’s official.

While most people make plans to celebrate a family member’s birthday with personalized birthday cards, a cake, and maybe a celebration or a party, I have gone above and beyond this. It just so happens that one member of my family is celebrating a Sweet 16 Birthday! This has become something of a major celebration since that show on MTV, My Super Sweet 16. This show exemplifies the excesses that people go to…huge parties, entertainment, and at the end of the show the birthday boy or girl is presented with an overly expensive car or SUV.

Besides the fact that I don’t have that kind of money, the difference with my party is that it’s for Spike – my 16 year old cat. I know, I know, he’s a cat. But hey, he’s almost the same age as my daughter and he was a heck of lot easier to potty train.

My party consists of a tablecloth depicting kitty cats wearing party hats, matching plates, assorted birthday cards, and a cake for Spike and his feline guests. The cake is from a website that makes cakes for cats with natural ingredients and ices them with yogurt. The really cool thing is that you send a picture and they reproduce it by painting your pet on the cake with edible paint. We plan on having cupcakes as well…for the humans. The only thing that is missing, and if anyone can help with locating it, (I’d very much appreciate it) – Spike wants his own Hummer. But I guess he’ll have to settle for a catnip stuffed Chevy!

Take The Cake With Assorted Birthday Cards

I have always been the world’s biggest procrastinator, justifying all my last minute responsibilities by saying that I work better when under pressure. Even the simple job of getting birthday cards ahead of time will turn into a quick stop before work at the local drug store to pick up a card the day of a co-worker’s birthday. But after witnessing someone else’s last minute behavior recently, I feel a lot better about my own last minute doings. And it has also prompted me to purchase a box of assorted birthday cards!

I recently stopped one night at a local drug store chain after work. I pulled into a spot in the parking lot and noticed a young woman sitting in her car, with the interior light on, obviously doing something in the unoccupied passenger seat next to her. I got out of my car, looked in to her car and saw a sight that has kept me chuckling ever since. This woman was bent over a graham cracker pie shell, scooping chocolate pudding out of small pudding snack cups with a white plastic spoon, into the pie shell. An aerosol can of whipped cream sat next to the pie shell awaiting it’s turn in the creation of this pie. The woman was making a graham cracker pudding pie probably for someone’s birthday she would be attending within the next few minutes! She did not look up from her “baking” task or otherwise she would have seen me smiling and looking in at her. I thought to myself, “That really takes the cake!”

I still get a smile on my face when I think about this procrastinating pie maker sitting in the parking lot. But now I have a supply of personalized birthday cards on hand as well as an empty graham cracker pie shell, pudding mix and a can of aerosol whipped cream in my kitchen at home…just in case. I don’t ever want to get caught making a pie in my car on the way to someone’s birthday party!

Bulk Birthday Cards For When I Wish I Had Some Available

Have you ever been in the position when it was someone’s birthday in the office and you were unaware of it?  Well, I have, and you get that awkward feeling of not having a card to give the person you work with as a small token of celebrating their special day.  Luckily my business associate had some bulk birthday cards on hand.  I found the perfect card to give my co-worker and I felt so relieved that this gorgeous, colorful card saved the day for me.  It was a tough decision to make, but I couldn’t go wrong with the one I did choose.

When I was looking through her cards each one was brighter and cheerier than the next.  The foil colors were radiant and full of luster.  The designs were raised giving it a 3-D effect.  The quality of these birthday cards are the best I’ve seen yet.

In this selection of cards that my co-worker had I found some beautiful assorted birthday cards. And I learned a valuable lesson. It’s always good to have cards on hand!

Sender of Greeting Cards (a.k.a. The Thoughtful One)

I’ve noticed that among our family and friends, we seem to acquire labels. Perhaps among your acquaintances, you can name the best cook or the trivia buff, the gullible one or the cynic, the non-stop talker or the shrinking violet, the athlete or the know-it-all. In my family and circle of friends, I am known as “the thoughtful one.” This actually was an easy reputation to acquire; I’m a habitual sender of personalized greeting cards. I’ve been like this since early childhood, when I carefully made my own cards with construction paper and crayons. Later, as a stay-at-home Mom with a budget as small as my tykes, I sometimes got pretty creative with my homemade greeting cards.

As interests and activities multiplied, social circles kept expanding. My siblings, cousins, and friends acquired spouses, children, and eventually, grandchildren. Even my children and their friends acquired children! Alas, time flew and before I knew it, I had at least two full-time jobs and a list of birthdays a mile long, which now also included business associates who had become friends. And let me tell you, when you’ve “spoiled” people by always remembering their birthdays, they won’t let you get away with suddenly “not remembering.”

I had long since converted from homemade to store bought cards but found my shopping trips for greeting cards to be too frequent. I even missed an occasional birthday or anniversary mailing; I just couldn’t find time for the card hunt! A few years ago, I found my solution and salvation. I now keep on hand a beautiful box of assorted birthday cards. At a glance to the calendar or on a moment’s notice, having this box of assorted greeting cards means that I’m always prepared to send off happy birthday greetings…without delay!

I also started keeping a stockpile of assorted greeting cards for other occasions so I’m always prompt with sympathy cards, thank you cards, anniversary cards, and get well cards. I even have a supply of blank note cards for when I just want to let someone know that I’ve been thinking of them.

No one suspects how easy and economical it is for me to be so thoughtful. But I’ve heard some lovely comments over the years: “You always remember,” “Every year I look forward to getting your beautiful birthday card,” “It wouldn’t seem like my birthday without getting your cheery card.” And there it is, with so many less complimentary titles that might have been applied to me, I have been labeled as “the thoughtful one.”

Keep an Assortment of Birthday Cards on hand – someone will really appreciate it!

One of my fondest memories from childhood was celebrating my birthday each year. Because I was a child, of course the presents mattered most, but I always enjoyed receiving birthday cards from my parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. The enjoyment has carried on through out my adolescence and into adulthood.

In today’s fast-paced world, there are many ways to wish someone in your family, a co-worker, or a client a happy birthday. In my opinion an e-mail, phone call, or electronic birthday card takes a big back seat to getting the real thing…an actual birthday card. I think everyone should have a box of assorted birthday cards on hand to reach out and brighten up that special day of those around you.

I am always happy to open birthday cards from family members, friends, or business associates. I believe the time it takes to wish someone a happy birthday is time well spent. Your recipients will enjoy your warm wishes for sure, and what an easy way to keep in touch and let them know how important they are, just by sending greeting cards! I think this gesture requires just a bit of effort, but will be rewarding for both the sender and the card opener. And naturally…this all hit me when I was reading my birthday cards this year!
