This all started years ago when I spotted one of \u201cmy\u201d cards, Design 307CW<em> &#8211; Patriotic Dove Peaceful Holiday Card<\/em>, sitting on his fireplace mantel. It was a holiday card from his investment broker depicting a white dove against an American flag background with the words \u201cPeace on Earth\u201d inscribed in gold lettering. He was fascinated that a company created <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gallerycollection.com\/christmas-cards\/patriotic-cards.htm\"><strong>patriotic Christmas cards<\/strong><\/a> and this one especially brought to mind a \u201cgreeting card\u201d he had received back in 1945. Being the 83 year old reminiscing storyteller that he has become, my father proceeded to tell me about the \u201cgreeting card\u201d he received that year.<\/p>\n<p><center><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2922\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2922\" style=\"width: 297px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gallerycollection.com\/product\/patriotic-dove-peaceful-holiday-card-300284.htm\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2922\" title=\"Design 307CW \u2013 Patriotic Dove Peaceful Holiday Card\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gallerycollection.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/307CW-297x300.jpg\" alt=\"Design 307CW \u2013 Patriotic Dove Peaceful Holiday Card\" width=\"297\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gallerycollection.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/307CW-297x300.jpg 297w, https:\/\/www.gallerycollection.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/307CW.jpg 307w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 297px) 100vw, 297px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2922\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><b><i>Design 307CW \u2013 Patriotic Dove <br \/>Peaceful Holiday Card<\/i><\/b><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><\/center>He had just turned 18 and by law had to register with the local draft board. World War II was winding down in Europe but was still going full force in the Pacific. He had been assured he would not be called to serve before he graduated from high school in a few months. In the interim, his school officials were working with the Navy to get him into a new training program.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after graduation in May, he received a rather \u201cbland\u201d notice via telegram that began: \u201cGreetings. You have been accepted by the United States Navy as a volunteer for their Electronic Technician Training Program. Report to\u2026 Congratulations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Recently, my father was going through some old papers in his desk and he came across this tattered, worn telegram that changed his life in many ways. His first thought was that this piece of paper should have been put in a picture frame many years ago because of the impact it had on his life. His second thought was that this message should have arrived on beautiful Design 307CW &#8211; <em>Patriotic Dove Peaceful Holiday Card<\/em>, inscribed in gold foil with the message of his induction into the Navy embossed with the official naval insignia inside.
