The boss was lamenting the fact that there would be no raises for a 2<sup>nd<\/sup> straight year for most of us and that only some upper management would probably be getting bonuses, (I thought she was joking, but\u2026). She even wondered about the cards we get for birthdays, Christmas, Anniversaries and everything in between.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7145\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7145\" style=\"width: 671px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gallerycollection.com\/product\/cupcake-treat-birthday-card-300852.htm\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-7145\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gallerycollection.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/1-19-2015-10-30-21-AM.png\" alt=\"Design G1VAY - Cupcake Treat Birthday Card\" width=\"671\" height=\"467\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gallerycollection.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/1-19-2015-10-30-21-AM.png 779w, https:\/\/www.gallerycollection.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/1-19-2015-10-30-21-AM-300x209.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 671px) 100vw, 671px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7145\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Design G1VAY &#8211; Cupcake Treat Birthday Card<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Of all the things to pick out to complain about my friend starts on about the card thing, about what a morale boost it is, about how fun it is to get that card in the mail. Always the dope I found out why when I complained about the no raises part. The boss thought it was sweet to lobby for the card tradition, while I got the stink eye for my input. I quickly reversed course and said how much I liked getting cards too. You gotta play the game.<\/p>\n<p>I have to admit though that for a business to hand out cards does make difference. Unless you\u2019re very cynical, you have to say that it\u2019s at least a sign of goodwill. A lot of employers don\u2019t bother to make the effort at any kind of appreciation.<\/p>\n<p>I told my friend later that I get it, but I sure would like to talk about that raise too. He said we all might get more than business birthday cards if I worked harder.
