Why You Should Send Personal Photo Cards

Before I started a family, I admit that I rarely sent out Christmas cards. I loved receiving them though.  Once I was married and my two children were born, I could not wait to start choosing a holiday card to send out. Personal photo cards became my cards of choice. I think there are many reasons why personalized photo cards are a wonderful idea.

My husband and I both come from large families with many relatives living out of state.  Because of the distance between us, we don’t get a chance to get together often. We don’t get the chance to see each others’ children grow up and they grow up too quickly. We wind up missing so many milestones.  Sending and receiving personal photo cards lets us see our families and friend’s families’ growing up. It really helps to keep us all in touch with each other and make us feel like we are right there with them.  I hang the photo cards that we receive up on a door so I can see them all year long.

Besides adding pictures to personalized photo cards, you can also customize the wording as well. While most of our relatives celebrate Christmas, we have some that celebrate Hanukkah. I like to be able to make sure that I send holiday wishes for any holiday that they may celebrate. This helps to ensure that no one is offended. I often prefer to customize my photo cards by wishing everyone a Happy Everything.

One of the things I look forward to the most regarding the holiday season is receiving personal photo cards. Knowing that we are in each other’s thoughts makes the holiday feel really special. I have already chosen the design that I will be sending out to those I love and I can’t wait to see who is thinking of us too.  I really recommend sending out personalized photo cards. This is the time of year that we all want to feel close to loved ones. This holiday I recommend sending out your personal holiday card and let your loved ones know that you are thinking of them.

  1. I love getting photo cards every Christmas of friends and family with updated pictures. After the holidays I go one step further and put all the photo cards in a scrapbook dedicated to these pictures. My album goes back over 20 years and it is fun to look over the old photos from years back. I save this project for a snowy day in January and spend hours putting in the new pictures and reminiscing over the old ones!

  2. love sending photo cards! friends/family who don’t see my kids on a regular basis love seeing how they have grown each year. we always send photos for christmas, but sometimes we’ll sneak in other holidays too if i can remember.

  3. I send out Photo cards every year! Now that they’re older it’s tough to get my kids together long enough to take a card worthy picture but we always pull it off.

  4. Photo cards are the greatest. So many of my high school and college friends are living out of state and out of the country while they are raising families. I love giving & getting these photos. Yes, we email and Facebook, but a card in hand is worth so much more to me. Great idea about a scrapbook dedicated to these cards. Thanks, Shawna.

  5. Photo cards are my favorite to receive at Christmas. I have lots of friends/family I don’t get to see often so I like seeing pictures of the kids and what they are up to. And with digital cameras it is so much easier these days to send them out!!

  6. My husband and I are always sharing photos with our families on Facebook. But for the holidays we have photo cards that double as gift tags. We send out packages of gifts and include a photo card in each package. We tie the card to the “family” gift instead of to one individual gift. (Saves a stamp.) Last Christmas the family gift for everyone was a huge box of caramel covered popcorn. Still thinking about what we’ll include this coming holiday.

  7. Photo cards are great – makes the card truly unique. Love to give them out with my family’s photo at Christmas.

  8. My husband and I moved into our first home a few months before Christmas. We’re so proud that we could do this-we’ve been looking for just the right place for a couple of years. We asked one of our new neighbors to take a picture of us standing in front of the house. It was all decorated with colored lights and it made a great photo card. We surprised everyone by mailing a Christmas card with our new address before December 1st!

  9. I agree that personal photo cards are great to receive. Please, if someone has an idea that will help me- I want to take a picture of my two dogs and the three cats my husband and I treasure. How can we get them to cooperate & sit for the photo? The dogs are camera hams and love to get their picture taken, but those cats, not so much!

  10. I used the personal photo cards as Thank You cards after my daughter’s graduation party. We had a few really nice pictures and I threw some together for the front of the cards then I left the inside blank so my daughter could write something personal about each gift she received.

  11. Photo cards can be great gifts that last a lifetime. You don’t have to worry about going to the mall, struggling with trying to figure out what to get as a present and it can be very cost effective and everyone’s gift would be the same, no one will feel slighted.

  13. These type of cards have always been nice to me . I have always received them but now that I have a family of my own, I’m excited to be able to give out my own.

  14. I love the cards from my family members that are not necessarily “a christmas photo” but a family photo from sometime during the year. My cousins and I have been doing this for years as a way to share pictures of our kids with each other.

  15. A great way to keep in touch at the holidays. A photo of your children growing, your family dog or cat, your Christmas tree, are all excellent photos you can put on your card.
